This superb pilots watch from IWC is most notable for its extraordinary power reserve. The watch can keep ticking for seven days without any decrease in accuracy. This on its own would be fairly impressive, but even more remarkable is that this isn't even the full extent of available power. The actual reserve is significantly longer than seven days, but the whole movement is mechanically programmed to bring itself to a stop before the power is completely exhausted. Why? Because this avoids the risk of of the watch losing its precision from diminished torque as the mainspring winds down, and ensures that the system's input power remains constant. Conveniently, there is a large subdial at 3 o'clock that clearly shows when the watch is about to run out of juice.
