IWC describes this timepiece as the “flagship” of its elegant Portofino collection, and it's not hard to see why. Thanks to the superb 59210 calibre, the watch can keep ticking for eight full days without any decrease in accuracy. This on its own would be fairly impressive, but even more remarkable is that this isn't even the full extent of available power. The actual reserve is more like nine days, but the whole movement is mechanically programmed to bring itself to a stop before the power is completely exhausted. Why? Because this avoids the risk of of the watch losing its precision from diminished torque as the mainspring winds down, and ensures that the system's input power remains constant. Conveniently, there is a retrograde display that clearly shows when the watch is about to run out of juice.
