Patagonia

Patagonia was founded in 1973 by the climber Yvon Chouinard, who had been making climbing gear since the 1950s and began selling clothing through his Chouinard Equipment business. Based in Ventura, California, it makes technical outdoor clothing such as the Synchilla fleece and Nano Puff jacket, repairs garments through its Worn Wear programme, and gives part of its sales to environmental causes. In 2022 Chouinard transferred ownership to a trust and a non-profit so profits go to fighting climate change.
