Teeming with rich history, knitwear label Inis Meáin (pronounced "Inishmaan") is named after one of three tiny Aran islands off the coast of Europe. With fishery being their main livelihood, men set out to sea to collect their boon while the women create their daily wear. Over time, techniques grew, and so did commerce, and the Inis Meáin Knitting Company was founded in 1976 by husband-and-wife duo Tarlach de Blácam and Áine Ní Chonghaile. Now catering to knitwear needs all over the world, the brand is dedicated to exemplary craftsmanship, expertly finishing garments by hand. Still considering themselves as makers of workwear, the brand has since expanded into softer fabrics and a wider selection of color, but retain their classic appeal.
