Gallery Dept.

Josué Thomas, an artist who started out reworking vintage clothes, founded Gallery Dept. in Los Angeles in 2017 and runs it from a studio and shop on Beverly Boulevard, closer to an art practice than a seasonal fashion house. Hand-painted, paint-spattered vintage workwear, hoodies and T-shirts, and above all the flared, reworked LA Flare jeans, made it a hip-hop favourite. A 'closing down' announcement in 2021 proved short-lived: the label went on to further Lanvin collaborations and a Miami store.
