If creating clothes to perfect the "80's Asian mom" look was a thing, then the people who did it best were to be found in New York City. Seeing the lack of East Asian representation in the fashion industry, Jin Kay, Dylan Cao, and Huy Luong, after completing their degrees at Parsons School of Design in New York, made moves to establish a brand that would combine their culture and heritage with more recent memories and experiences of fashion. In 2018, the design trio established Commission, whose core, as Kay told Vogue, “is our memories of our mothers from the ’80s and ’90s.” Distinguished with pops of color, vibrant prints, and vintage silhouettes, Commission serves as a love letter to the working Asian mom.
