Comme des Garçons Parfums began in 1993 as a partnership between Rei Kawakubo and Christian Astuguevieille, who set out to make 'anti-perfumes' and released the first scent, now known as the Original, in 1994. Odeur 53, built from notes such as oxygen, metal and burnt rubber, and later woods such as Wonderwood made the house a pillar of niche perfumery. Astuguevieille, its creative director for more than three decades, died in February 2026.
