Maurizio Sani founded Buttero in 1974 to make riding boots, naming it after the butteri, the cowboys of the Tuscan Maremma. The family business, now run across three generations of Sanis, has moved into sneakers and contemporary shoes while keeping to its roots: everything is made by hand in Stabbia, in Tuscany, from vegetable-tanned Italian leather from local tanneries.
