Burberry

Burberry was founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, a 21-year-old draper in Basingstoke, England. In 1879 he invented gabardine, a breathable, weatherproof cotton, which led to the trench coat worn by British officers in the First World War. The house check, introduced as a coat lining in the 1920s, became its signature. Now based in London, Burberry makes ready-to-wear, outerwear, bags and accessories for women and men, with Daniel Lee, formerly of Bottega Veneta, as chief creative officer since 2022.
