Kenzo

Kenzo Takada left Tokyo for Paris in 1964, and in 1970 opened a boutique, Jungle Jap, in the Galerie Vivienne, painting its walls with jungle scenes and filling it with clothes that married Japanese cutting to bright prints and florals. LVMH bought the house in 1993 and Takada retired in 1999. Humberto Leon and Carol Lim made the tiger sweatshirt a phenomenon in the 2010s, and Nigo, the founder of A Bathing Ape, has been artistic director since 2021.
