Stone Island

Massimo Osti founded Stone Island in Bologna in 1982 around a single fabric, Tela Stella, a stonewashed truck tarpaulin, and the removable compass badge on the left sleeve soon became one of the most recognised marks in menswear. Carlo Rivetti ran the company for nearly four decades, building a research lab that dyes finished garments and experiments with heat-sensitive, reflective and glass-coated fabrics. Moncler bought Stone Island in 2020; it is based in Ravarino, near Modena.
