Thomas Church and his sons Alfred, William and Dudley set up Church's in Northampton in 1873, and the house still makes its Goodyear-welted shoes there, at its St James factory. Brogues and Oxfords such as the Consul and the Chetwynd, often in glossy polished binder leather, are its signatures, alongside loafers, boots and a women's collection. Prada has owned the company since 1999.
