Bao Bao Issey Miyake

Tokyo Japan

2010

It's hard to think that Issey Miyake's Bao Bao bag line is an engineering feat first and foremost, and a fashion success second. Formed using a mesh fabric and layered with small triangles of a material known as polyvinyl (most commonly found as the "PV" in PVC pipes), the bag's fruition was not based solely on design aesthetic, but an engineer's outlook. Using a multitude of shapes that can have infinite possibilities, Issey Miyake's Bao Bao takes bags not only as a statement accessory, but a piece of functional and architectural beauty.
