Frederique Constant was founded in Geneva in 1988 by the Dutch couple Peter Stas and Aletta Stas-Bax, who named it after two great-grandparents, Frédérique Schreiner and Constant Stas, founders of a watch dial maker in 1904. The brand set out to make Swiss mechanical watches at accessible prices, and is known for its Heart Beat models, which show the balance wheel through an opening in the dial, and for in-house calibres including perpetual calendars. Citizen has owned the company since 2016.
