Hunter began in 1856, when the American entrepreneur Henry Lee Norris set up the North British Rubber Company in Edinburgh to make rubber boots and overshoes. It made more than a million pairs of boots for the British Army in the First World War, and its Original Wellington became a staple of the British countryside and, later, of festival fields. After the company went into administration in 2023, Authentic Brands Group bought the brand, which is now made and sold through licence partners.
