Giuseppe Zanotti grew up in San Mauro Pascoli, the shoemaking town near Rimini, and freelanced for fashion houses through the 1980s before buying the local Vicini factory and presenting his first collection in New York in 1994. Jewelled sandals and vertiginous heels made him a red-carpet name, and his zipped high-top sneakers did the same for men. Everything is still made in Italy, and the house also makes bags, jewellery and clothing.
